As we "begin" the adventure, it occurs to me that I really should be writing this all down somewhere ... to look back and laugh .. or see how far we've come .. or something.

So it is BYC where I will share .. for those that want to read .. or to myself as a cathartic exercise .. so come along.

I lived in this small town years ago .. then divorce .. single motherhood .. remarriage. As "fate" would have it .. we are moving back. 8 years later.

DH and I bought 5.2 acres over a year ago .. sold our home in the city in March .. and spent 5 grueling months trying to get the banks to loan us money for construction. Finally done .. two weeks ago .. we are moving forward with our plans.

Land is wooded .. lots of pines .. lots of hardwoods. Many fights over what should stay and what should go.

Tree cutting starts tomorrow. The back two acres will the without pines .. for pasture and such. The acre around the house will be without pines. The front acre will stay completely natural for barrier and privacy .. the acre between the house and pasture will be underbrushed, but left wooded.

House plans are this:

It's soon going to be a reality .. pics to follow...

One of the things we have really enjoyed about getting back to the country has been the wildlife ..

It looks wonderful! We're debaiting the same plunge right now, alot of programs for teacher's loans, but with school budgets being slashed by the state, it's just not stable right now.

Financing was hard .. between when we bought the land last year and trying for construction loan this year .. crazy! We have excellent credit .. had just sold our house .. everything .. and it was CRAZY trying to get financing ... we were biting our nails til the very end...

Congrats!! We bought almost 6 acres-very wooded with pines about 5 years ago. We logged, milled, built everything!! I am so happy it is done. It is very rewarding when you do so much work yourselves though. Now that the house is done....onto the 4 car garage (one car, 2 trucks, one tractor) With more coops in time too I hope. Enjoy!

hey, cool. we're trying to do the same thing right now, have financing in place for reg loan, but cant find nothing so decided maybe build? haha, looking at land, found 7 acres.. the catch is its in a 100yr flood zone.

.... so.... i keep saying, only 1 acre is in flood zone, hes vetoing me right now. but we will see what the builder thinks methinks.... besides, we're gonna have too many kids for 900sq/ft which is about all there is round here not in town
