I want to make a roos for my hoop coop. I think that I can take 2X4's and make a ladder to lean up against the back of the coop but I am having a hard time visualzing how to nail the cross boards on so that the birds have the 4" side up to stand on. I could do it easily and have teh 2" side up. Can anyone help me? I am not terribly wood working exoerienced and DH dosent know his way arounf the butt end of a hammer. Thanks

You have to nail them at an angle to the side pieces - like 45 degrees or so depending on how far your ladder will lean.

Thanks, I think I understand.

For the roost in my hoop coop, we put 2x4 blocks on the outside at roost level and screwed the inside roost to them. The roost is a little less than 3' feet off the ground, and the birds don't need a ladder.

Slystr,
I just ran across a picture of your hoop coop and what I suggested wouldn't work for you. A saw horse type roost might be good...
