Building a new coop

I was going to wait untill spring to build a larger coop, but I went and bought all the materials today. Delivery is this monday.
The coop will be 12' wide and 16' long

I have leveled the area and put down 6x6x12 timbers / skids to build on top of.
I will take pictures of the project as it progresses

When I had my new coop built the guy building it suggested cinder blocks ass the foundation. A little work but worth it with very uneven ground. Yours is looking great!!!

This is my drawing for the coop
The front will eventually have a 4' covered porch.

The pop door on the left, will let little chicks out of their part of the coop, into an enclosed run, for a see but dont touch.

Yes there will be soffit vents down the complete length of the coop. Along with a ridge vent on the roof. And gable vents,.

May I make a suggestion, please. I know it's hard to wait. I went through this with my husband, BUT before you do anything, thoroughly paint, or varnish the wood. You won't regret it. It fills, and seals the cracks and crevices, so it won't harbor mites. IF you do get mites, it's much easier to get rid of them, since they can't hide. In addition, it protects the wood, so it will last longer. With the cost of lumber, and wire, you want it to last as long as possible. Paint first, then build.

I put my order in for 15 chicks. To join my existing flock of 12.
I'm thinking I should be done building the new coop by the time there ready to leave the brooder.

Started building this afternoon,


South facing wall with two windows and three low vent openings

Got the north facing wall up also, it has two window openings,
I didn't put the two pop doors in yet,
