Ooops! I accidentally posted this before I was done writing it, please check out my other Thread of the same title. SORRY!

Hey there BYC Community! I am new here and have spent the past week surfing around the site learning about everything chicken! I have done some searching before posting this, but please forgive me if anything I say has been repeated before in another thread!

So I'm looking to get 10 chickens from the local feed and seed down the road from me. They order their chicks from somewhere (I'm guessing online) and are getting them in on the 15th and the 29th of this month. I'm planning on getting Bared Rocks, Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, and Golden Laced Wyandottes. They also said that they are getting Rhode Island Reds in.

I live in northern Colorado in the mountains, the summer highs here are in the 80s and the winter lows can get down to the negative 20's in the night.

Rocks, Australorps, Orphingtons and Wyandottes do well out here as do RIR but the RIR are prone to frostbite.

My best layers have been a RIR/Orphington mix and an Australorp. I have never owned a Rock so I can't speak to them.

On another note, if you can be sure your chicks are Meraks vaccinated. There are so many little birds that can stop in and spread illness it's an easy way to protect your flock.

Thank you for responding! I am really looking forward to the Buff Orpingtons. :) I didn't realize that I posted this thread before I was done writing it! Ooops! Ignore this thread! >_<
