Building coop with attached run .....what kind of bedding to use?

Hi ....

I'm a chicken newbie and have four 4 week old chicks eager to get outside in their new coop!
My husband and I are building our first coop for them and can't decide on what kind of bedding to put down in the attached run....soil, soil with pine shavings, straw, sod? Inside their house I believe we will be using pine shavings.

All those things have been used before. You will figure out what works best. Maybe sand? Maybe straw? You could leave it all dirt and rake it each week so that you don't get cake. Depending on where you live maybe even natural pines or even leaves. They will love somewhere to dust bath that is a given.
