We have a Buff Orpington named "Blondie". well she has become the building inspector. we are in the process of building a new coop and she is interested in everything we are doing. we were setting the post for the legs, she came over and stood around my feet watching. even when I would slam the hold digger into the ground, it didn't disturb her. She would watch, then check out the dirt I dumped from the hole. When she was happy with the dirt, she would watch my digging. After the hole was done, she stuck her head as far down the hole as possible, giving it the oneyed chicky stare. If it was ok she would start clucking and walking around kinda like she approved of the hole. She did every hole we dug, checking the dirt then the hole. I thought that was just the funniest thing. I think she is taking this to heart. Today, we changed the feeders and waterers. She was there watching everything and giving us her approval clucks. She even went into the coop when I was hanging the new feeder. She would walk around cluck, then take a bite for food from the new feeder. After I hung the waterer, she instected that and got a good long drink. I think she approves. She then came out of the coop and inspected the new feeder outside. I think it passed inspection also, she clucked and got a little nibble. And I thought chickens were dumb.
Everyone has a favorite chick, guess everyone knows that "Blondie" is ours. She was chased into the woods by a dog and stayed gone 2 nights. We didn't think she would ever return. She did and we were happy campers again. She is very friendly and I must say spoiled somewhat. Last night when putting them to bed, she was the only one left outside the coop. I went into the pen like normal, except this time, she didn't just go on into the coop. She came running to me. She clucked and just stood at my feet. When I picked her up she just seemed like it was natural that I should put her to bed. I opened the side door to the coop, thinking I could just stand her in the door and she would jump into the coop. Wrong!! she would not even put her feet down. I had to set her on the roost, she would not put her feet down anywhere else. spoiled chicken. Just hope this doesn't turn to an every day event.

Great story, wayneh.

It could be a lot worse. She could be totally anti-social. I wish one of our girls would let us pick her up. We're still working on that.

I wish you could have video taped it, that would have made a great YouTube.
Keep us posted on the Building Inspector.
