Building my first coop! - progress thread

Pics
Yeah, I'll get rid of the ramp branch and keep the roost where it is (along the long wall), lower it to 3 feet, cut it shorter so it doesn't go all the way in front of the pop door, and put one of these stumps in front of it in case the big fluffy butts can't get up/down without help.

And lots of stumps in the run, for everybody to sit on, chicken or people.

It's been too rainy and too cold to finish up the coop, even though I'm SO CLOSE!!! So in the meantime I've been planning the run. Got more logs today, and have an idea for the outdoor climbing structure I'll be building. Additionally, I got inspired by one of my kids' favorite playgrounds, for how to do the dust-bathing area. I'm gonna cut one of the thick branches into stumps and arrange them around the sand pit, like how they've done the playground's sand area (but much smaller obviously):

I'll leave the stumps pretty tall to keep the sand in. And I'll vary them in height like they are at the playground, to give the chickens an extra little thing to climb on.

The nest box is done! :celebrate

The top can be opened for cleaning or egg collection. I still need to add hinges. I incorporated the vertical support of the coop wall into the nesting box so the box would be flush with the coop wall.

This was fun to make and will be fun to have in the coop. I’m very happy with my chicken head nest box :D
