Building New Coop/Barn...Phase 5 Great Barn Build, OCCUPIED! 3/6/16

Pics
WooHoo!! Nerve racking for sure...it'll be alright.
Looking forward to watching the process from here...and not having to make the decisions.
Hang in there.

It will all work out. With this type project, especially involving other folks, it never goes along exactly as you expect, but in the end, it will all work out. For the first time ever, though, someone else is building a building FOR us, yea! It's such a luxury, even though we'll have to do the interior and the fencing (unless my sister gets off her duff and gets my dad's house in the market-dream on).

We have plenty of paver base still to put inside around that foundation gap and pack it in then we can use concrete on the outside in those areas, at the very least. The vapor barrier will be attached to the foundation inside then the walls will hold it at the bottom. I'll double up on it with the 6 mil we still have here somewhere, too.

They got here at 6:38 a.m., pitch black dark, but they're ready to work. I cringe thinking of them sawing metal at this hour and the neighbors.

Yeah, gonna be a loud day at your place!

Recently read another story about a new metal barn.....cocks crow much louder in the 'metal reverberation unit'.
Tho his has open end(s) and no insulation I don't think.

Oh, yeah, it is loud, but they didn't do too much loud stuff when they first got here.

2nd and 3rd glitches. First of all, the building was going to be two toned and it isn't. We did order, and it was verified several times as top 2/3 ivory, bottom 1/3 light stone, per the swatches on the brochure at the dealer. When all the end was one color, a light beigey color, we asked. These guys say depending on where they get the metal, the colors are interchangeable, hence, my one color building. Now, it was only a little extra I found I could have at no charge and I had been concerned that there would not be enough contrast between the two for it to look really attractive so I'm not upset about it. It's a nice color and will be good for a metal building in summer, but we have to notify the company of this development so it doesn't keep happening with future customers. I'd say this color was more of what I think of as light stone than the ivory so I'm okay with it. The roof will be the same color. Not truly a glitch for us, but it might be for someone else. Company needs to get that straight.

2nd thing I'm not happy about is the siding on the front will touch ground because of the finagling they did to supposedly get the building level. We can dig out a little and spray a rubberized coating on that side then put the paver base back up there, but I was not expecting that. We did already plan to spray the framing members near the floor with rubberized coating like a truck bed coating to protect them from dampness in the coop, even thought they'll be inside the walls. I heard that dog kennels do that with their metal buildings sometimes in order to be able to wash them out.

BUT, it will all work out and these guys do this day in and day out. They travel several states installing these buildings for this company and they seem to know what they're doing.

And while I'm waiting, here are pictures of the Kindle/Nook cover I made in my Masters of Mountain View series, featuring the fabric that shows likenesses of Isaac, Rex and Deacon, sadly the last of the three to be gone soon. My Kindle Fire HD is a 7" screen and fits in there beautifully, could maybe get an 8" to fit. The pocket is a double layer flannel that you face the screen against. Has minor loopy quilting (which is how I feel right now after this last few days). Tell me, would you buy something like this for yours if the price was right?

One good note: the windows appear nicer than the ones I saw on the lot. They are nice divided light ones, in a white color, not the plain metal ones.
Isn't it nice to sit back and watch others work?........It sweetens the bitter of the cost.

I'm learning this lately, bummed me out at first not to be able to do the work myself...but then, I sure wasn't as tired when the job was done.

No kidding.

However, 4th glitch: door opens the opposite to what I wanted it to open, not terrible unless you're running to get out of the rain fast. It will open facing the bad weather side. Good grief. I don't recall anyone asking me and DH with his kidney stone and zombie-like attitude doesn't seem to care to quibble over anything, so it is what it is. Also, door is not in center, but that may be just fine. The ground is already flatter there, less to dig out or worry about in that location. Nothing on the interior was set in stone other than I want 6 pens. They can be configured a bit differently, no big issue, I guess. Let's hope that's the last glitch.

Whew, I have some catching up to do, and it's only Tuesday!

What a lovely family you have! I'm sure they will treasure they knit hats for years to come! I still have some of my Grandma's knit dish rags. I love them.

I hope Tom starts feeling better soon! It looks like they know what they are doing with that building! It is going up fast! It took DH and I about two days to get a 6x10 put together two years ago! I bet it does feel good to sit back and watch them fly through it. I hope you don't have any more problems, or that they are easily resolved.

If I had a nook, kindle, tablet or ipad, I would definitely be interested in a case, LOL! Besides our phones and an old iPod for music, we are pretty electronic free here. The Pediatrician always asks how much time our boys spend on screened devices at well child visits. I just laugh. Poor boys. They have to go outside for entertainment, lol! We do have the old Nintendo that they can play on Fridays or Saturdays only, and only after their chores are done. I'm ok with Mario. It's the realistic stuff that scares me!

Sending hugs for Deacon.
