Building New Coop/Barn...Phase 5 Great Barn Build, OCCUPIED! 3/6/16

I used to toss ripe persimmons to the chickens. They loved the flesh of the fruit (as do mockingbirds), but the seeds are left in their litter only to sprout all over the place in the garden later. So, they don't get persimmons anymore.

I can imagine! Yep, I can see the downside to that. I have no clue who has persimmons around here, but those yotes go pretty far so they could get them all over this county and beyond, I suppose. I heard them far off in the distance a couple mornings ago but they've been pretty quiet for awhile near my place.

Peeled fence back one + section, cut a few small saplings and used the mower to clean up a driveway to the barn from the power line easement road. If Lowe's will just back it up into there, however far they're willing to go, any distance at all beyond just dumping it on the road will help. The actual distance (and I just paced it off, so rough estimate) is about 75' to the barn from the fence right up that swath.

We have a 12' wooden gate that used to be our driveway gate. Might shore it up and use it as a truck gate right in that location and have someone dump gravel and make an actual driveway there. Could be useful in the future. I could drive my Honda CRV or my future truck right up to the barn then and unload.

I was just going through this thread and seeing how this entire project evolved and changed and I suspect more about the inside will change as well as we start building. The excavation work was done on Oct 13, 2015 and here we are, almost four months later, just now getting lumber delivered to build the inside.

Lumber delivery is today! I'm excited, but a little nervous about that many sheets of plywood at one time. We've always gotten them 10-12 at a time for other projects. DH has his violin lesson today so I hope they come before he has to leave. I hate paying that delivery charge but no choice. And there may be yet another one if we need something else before we are able to buy a truck.

Probably won't need more plywood since we have some we can scrounge from the building we'll be taking down, but we have tops for the pens which will double as loft flooring and who knows what else so that remains to be seen. Can't even bring 2x4's home with our current vehicles. We have some in the buildings but that requires disassembling something that was put together with a power nailer. You know how fun that is.

How many and what thickness of plywood is being delivered?
Maybe nice delivery guys will move it to barn?
Go to meet them limping heavily?

Dissembling nailed stuff, not too bad if they used straight shanks...stuff around here(deck and shed) they used spiral nails, **** near impossible!!

7/16", so I guess round about 1/2" plywood. Could have put 1/4" on walls since we're just covering them up to make a clean, smooth surface for the back of the pens, but went for better strength and a tad more insulating quality, easier to order, too, lol. I think the plywood/OSB on the soon-to-be-dismantled building interior is 1/2", too.

We used straight shank, if I recall. We built everything that was built here other than this steel barn and the actual house.

For that delivery charge, they ought to stack it in the barn for us, sheesh.

Power was out for a couple of hours this morning but thankfully, we have a punch dial phone and got the call they were coming. They got their big truck STUCK at the turn into the power line easement road. At first, a guy with a skid steer unloaded the stuff right in front of my driveway, eesh. I guess husband said, um, no, not blocking my driveway, so the guy picked it up and this is where it finally ended up. By golly, when you pay for a delivery, they need to put it where you say they'll put it. They're still trying to get the big truck out, LOL.

Yup, it is. And now, it's all inside the barn. Seems they gave us 5 extra studs, not sure why unless someone just miscounted. Not complaining. Took them an hour or more to get the truck out. They had to use the skid steer to pull the nose over out of the ruts it had made. Resting and may start on the barn tomorrow.
