Building Our Coop - Follow Our Progress!

Wow! What a fantastic, well-thought out coop! I hope he was right about the cement, too.

This whole scenario is why my coop or poultry house is going to be at ground level but then mine is a different situation....

with seven pens and runs to deal with. Picture a wagon with a tub sitting in the back being hauled from pen chute to pen chute. Poop collection on the outside and egg collection on the inside of the house.

I am still delving into that site where the hammock was shown. I like the whole enrichment concept with regard to feeding and watering. Because in my situation my chickens will not be allowed to free range without supervision that means only every few days for me.

Great coop although I have to admit its alittle small and elabrate for my tastes i like my coops to be more like small buildings without a run since i have enough room to let them be free without my hens running out into my neighbors lawn (24 hens and 11 ducks) and to tell the truth I would have gone a rough but washable flooring as opposed to wood because lets be honest wood rots and if you couls have the floor somehow slide-out so you could tqke it out clean it and replace it before the hens comeback in would convenient besides thoose minor flaws you have a chicken palace right there make sure its big enough if the hens feel even the slightest bit stressed or crowded bad bad horrible habits will start such as fether plucking egg eating or even cannabalism (had a bit of an issue with the later myself) besides that chickens are generally resiliant amusing animals (just wait until one gets something on its beak and watch it slide its beak across the floor lol)

I would love to know what you consider rough and washable or what you use on your floors?

I would love to know what you consider rough and washable or what you use on your floors?

I used marine finish on my first horse drawn vehicle. Urethane three coats sanded between. Held up for ten years of outdoor use. This is not the resin you pour on but paint on. very good stuff. Though if you put down Linoleum all you have to do is put it over the top and just nail it down with furring strips. no glue and you can even take it up the walls a little way cutting out for corners. Sort of like they do in bathrooms. By using furring strips you can remove it later without the ordeal of scraping it off of the glue. Just a thought.

We moved our chicks from their brooder to an 8' x 8' coop two weeks ago. We had installed a linoleum remnant over the plywood floor. I am very happy with the results. So far nothing is sticking to linoleum. When I shovel the pine shavings out the floor is clean. I am a newbie but so far I am happy with the results of the linoleum floor.
