Building our Urban Garden Coop!

Oh, and we used a green paint, not a stain. It's by Behr I think...and it's a primer/paint all in one....goes on like spreading butter...lol. You only need one coat and if you do it that way you can still see the wood grain.

Here's a couple of chick photos also, to tide you over....they are 18 days old here.

I'd already added your blog to my reader a few days ago.

I'm doing a little bit of blogging about the building of our coop on my blog, I'll put a link to it in my signature soon.

I love the roofing you have used, that is something we're investigating at the moment and I am leaning towards something like what you have used. I am a little bit worried because we are in Australia and we get a lot of heat in summer but our backyard is quite shady so I think we should be ok with this kind of roofing.

That's about where we are at since it's very hot and humid here. We picked the smokey grey style and it's supposed to block out 70% of the sun's rays. Soon it'll be summer here so we'll see.....it's been 95 degrees already! I also placed the coop in the shade.

Thank you so much for all your great details and pictures, very helpful. Still kind of nervous about doing the backyard chickens. We've been talking about it for awhile, we have the space and a 6 year old daughter who would love some new baby sisters. Your pictures of the chickens are beautiful, truly. Looking forward to your updates, you're giving me inspiration to order up our chickens and start the coop.

Glad to be of help! You are wise to wait until you are truly ready and until EVERYONE in your home is also ready.

That way everyone can help.
This is a great place to go for all the help you'll need....and chickens are sooo popular now. We've researched coops here and online for a long time, then we had to wait for the funds to buy all the materials....after that the rest was a piece of cake!

We are hoping to have our coop mostly finished for the backyard tour on Sunday! My husband is on call this entire week and it's very humid and rainy....ugh.
Wish us luck!!

Here is what we have so far....
