building paradise for the birds

Birdman - no birds can change hands? Or no gathering to swap birds in large groups? One is a complete ban, one is a little less hard on people who depend on that exchange... I can remember when my children were in 4H, there was one year where there wasn't ANY poultry being shown state wide, (California) they all had to stay home to to Avian Flu being found in the state. It was hard on the kids and other exhibitors.
From the way I understand it, the powers that be here just don't want people bringing a bunch of assorted birds together and then in different directions to different farms. Increases the odds of something gaining a foothold and spreading throughout the state. Individual person to person sales of chickens are fine as there's a lot less chances of a vector being spread around to multiple farms there.

this is what has been passed down to me thru conversation...but i was told...its just another way for the big poultry people to stay on top...most people that go and sell at the bird swaps are small backyard flocks which most of them rely on such shows to help them out with feed...also this will impact mbgba big time...as many of the people on the board also need these shows...for the same reasons...we dont even have any tested birds in michigan with ai...yet...so when the big peeps put pressure on the department of ag...then they dont like the headache so they listen to them and this is what happens...you can still sell thru other methods...my main concern is that the income that the mbgba brings in thru these shows helps them stay running...this will indeed hurt them alot...bummer for the shows indeed....as i know many people that go to the shows and have booths...well with that said...by the end of the season i should have somewhere around 300 pheasants...that i will have no clue what im going to do with them....anyways..hope everyone is doing good...been taking pics and videos ...just been swamped...i have been helping a local tree cutter with work...in the last three days put in close to 40 hours...so its just been work and more work...sleep wake up...and do it again..havnt been really sleeping well or eating to much..been to busy for all of that...trying to get caught up today...made two more brooders...moved a bunch of birds...separated the quail into their breeding pairs...well be back in a flash...or a peep

I finally read this entire thread and I am thankful I did. Your posts have been very informational, and although I cannot have a huge flock of chickens for a while, you have provided me with many enclosure and incubator ideas, as well as some great general info to use one day in the future. The work, dedication, and passion towards your animals is quite admirable. Thank you for sharing your story and helping educate people.

10 and flat ;) so jealous. Being on a slant gets to be a real pain. I have to level spaces with every job. But runoff is great it all goes the same way.

Curious how your garden is doing. I said screw the drought here and am going back to my normal water cycle at least I'm watering to feed myself as a posed keeping some grass green.
Always looking forward to new pics.
