Good morning all!

Need to build a roost set-up for the chicks. I can hammer nails and that's about it. Was thinking of having the local lumberyard cut the lumber for me, I just need to tell them what I need. I don't have any official plans, but have been picturing it in my mind. Seems like I need two 'triangles' at the ends, then with the bars/poles going across in a stairstep/ladder way. I had been toying with the idea of using branches cut to the right length and somehow fastening/hanging them from the walls as it seemed like that would be a fairly simple thing to do.

I'm not lazy, just don't have a lot of carpenter skills or tools.

Any suggestions and advice appreciated. I will get out there in a bit and do some measuring. I need for it to be as basic and easy as possible. Thanks! Have a great day everybody!

There are a lot of different ways you can do this. I'll show you what I did using tree limbs..

I drilled holes through the tree limbs and the supports and used large nails to hold them in place. This way they are removable if you want to clean the coop.

i too am looking for roost solutions. the one i have is too low. ridgerunner, i really like your idea of drilling the holes & dropping a big nail in to hold in place then being able to just pull nail out & remove roost for cleaning. brilliant yet simple.

I just used 2X4s, with the wide side up. I slightly rounded the edges. The are placed in a simple framework that allows them to be easily removed. See pg4 of the link below to see them.
