If I were in a location where I could get by with it, I'd have a hundred if the little sweethearts! Of course, that would be 50sh eggs a day and 50 males crowing away, since I am a vegetarian & would keep them all around.

It's probably a good thing I can only have a few!

i'm in the same boat with my DH...lol

you need to be an animal lover to start, sometimes I wonder how I actually married him, total opposites, he used to be in the navy and every time he came back from sea there was a new pet in the house (or outside), when we were moving to florida I told him I had to live in an area we could have chickens, I think the chickens will stay until the neighbors start making complaints so far I haven't heard any, no roo but those girls have been getting real loud lately they like free ranging and I'm worried about the hawk thats been to visit, so now I have a backup if someone comes and tells me I need to get rid of the hens, I don't really see it happening though but I know human nature and some people are just darn sneaky when they complain.

instead of newspaper use those plastic corrugated political signs after any vote day. the plastic last for ever and its easy to hose off.

Just be cautious. Technically those signs are still the property of the candidate. People give permission for them to be posted in their yard but technically the candidate still owns them. A few years ago I actually heard of prosecutions over other people collecting these for various reasons. You are probably safe grabbing the ones that have a date on them (i.e. 2010). However, the undated ones are often collected to be reused in the next election to save campaign $.
