Hello all!
What is this and can I treat it?

EE hen 2 years old.Noticed a blood spot,so I kept her back from the flock(7 hens 1 rooster) to wash. Then I see it is a buldge below the vent. What is this and will time heal? I am searching online ,but most topic covers prolapse vent.

I pushed on it and it seems to go back in.Not a hard mass.Have her in a pet carrier and will put her in the playpen.Either she heals or I will need to cull. I washed her with soapy water and sprayed the sore spot with some blue kote.Yes, I am purple as always depsite being careful with that stuff.

Did the rooster do this???

I think I found a post while loading these pictures.

Could be ascitis? Will read up on it and see what can be done.Gotta go change. I smell like wet chicken.

Keep in mind that ascites just means fluid in the abdomen -- it is not a cause but a symptom. She could have cancer or be an internal layer. Could she be eggbound? I'm sure there are many more possible causes. Sometimes you can drain the fluid with a needle and they will be more comfortable, for a while.

No I do not feel an egg. Could be a hernia. I don't know what is worse the hernia or the ascitis. I have her in the garage,so I will see if she lays.

I killed her yesterday due to a massive infection that resulted from this bulge.Atleast she had a good summer.
