Hi everyone,
I have a 2 week old barred rock rooster that I just noticed has a vent that seems to be bulging out. I can't quite tell if it's a bulging vent or a fatty "lump" just under the fluff of his tail.
Basically he had some dried poop on his back end and I gently cleaned it off with a q-tip and warm water, wondering if it was pasty butt. Picking him up and looking is when I noticed it was bulging. However, once I cleaned the poop off I could see it was still a healthy pink color, just bulging.
He is still eating, drinking, pooping, and overall acting normal. But his vent looks swollen, very unlike my other chicks, whom are all females.
Could this be a male/female difference? I put a little ointment on it just in case.
I've attached three photos... The first is a from a distance, showing the "swelling." the second and third is after and before I cleaned.
