Thats pretty cool. How many pounds of feed does that hold ?? I was thinking of something just about like that but only big enough I could put the entire pallet of feed in ?? like a closet but only RODENT PROOF. Thanks for the pictures.

Those of you who use the trash cans, do you have any problems with moisture building up on the inside during warm months? I would like to have something closer to the coop.

I use large chest freezers. The seal really well and are rodent proof. This is were I keep my horse feed( sweet feed with alfalfa pellets) , chicken feed ( layer pellets, cracked corn, oats and sunflower seed) and my dairy goat feed. I also keep treats in a small space in them, ( horse treats, whole ear corn and some veggies now and then.) Each large freezer holds between three and four hundred pound of feed, depending on weather or not I built dividers in them or not to keep different feeds all in one freezer.

I have a metal garbage can in the hen house and it holds about 150# of layer crumbles. That lasts about a month with my 29 chickens.
In the barn, we use an old chest freezer to store the horse feed.

The box will hold 1000 lbs of cracked corn. I think it is 45" wide and tall and 37" deep. the boards were 45x37, the boards were turned on the sides. He added more boards for the lid..made a big box and then cut out the lid. We cut the lid low enough so we could reach all sides when scooping feed. We put the boxes on a couple of boards so the wood is not on the moist ground.

We used 30 gallon trashcans for years. Purchased feed 1000 lbs or more at a time. Never had a moisture problem, unless the feed was rained on when it was being brought home. We started having problems with racoons/skunks, also sometimes when you open up the lid a mouse would be on top of the grain. Eventually the lids got busted..I will say the racoons cannot lift this lid and since we have used them (over a year) I have not once caught a mouse in there.

I have also heard of people using freezers...you could probably pick them up free on craigs list and not have to build anything.

I use 55 gal barrels with lids...they hold about 330 lbs depending on what you get...but I got corn, milo, and wheat cost me $75 for about 1000 lbs of grain...grain lasts a long long time just protect it from moisture...processed foods...I wouldn't want them any older than it had to be...couple months at most...maybe but that is just my feelings
