Someone asked for a picture of my setup. Here it is. The only thing different is that there is another small dog kennel inside towards the back right. We were separating the new ladies for a bit but it stays open now since things have settled down.

Are you measuring 36 sq ft as the red square or the green?
The coop is technically the smaller closed in area. Because you have the entire structure inside a kennel you could close off the sides of the prefab run to make the whole thing a coop.

I went back to the site (LINK) I bought this from to get the measurements of this 5 chicken coop and the interior (green outline) is 36x42. The run area is 36x48 but they never spend time in there. 36x42 is 10.5spft and if you take the rule of thumb (4sqft per hen) that was mentioned earlier that coop is WAY to small even for 4 chickens. Online it says anywhere from 2-4 but I would agree they would be happier with more. I will look into enclosing that and making the coop area larger. I also plan on make a small coop no run out of pallets that I got from work.

Your other option is to secure the coop/run into coop and put it outside the run. Sort of how the nest boxes hang off the side of the coop now.
