Earlier my parent bought a tray of balut eggs she said she got from the farmers market and told me that the seller said they’re all fresh and raw, and that the ones in the middle could actually be hatched. Knowing that my family was planning on eating them in a few hours I managed to get one in the incubator and saw it was moving after candling it. After reading up on information i’m not so sure this was the right idea. Because the rest of the eggs are already cooked, it is the only egg incubating right now. I found out that ducks need at least one other flock mate. Because it is too late to get another balut egg i might have to either wait until next week and buy another balut egg, hatch it alone, or cook it. But it’s also good for me to note that I actually have a group of chickens and chicks right now, so it might be able to bond with them. I would really appreciate some thoughts here as I don’t want to get more attached to it if the humane thing to do was put it down...

Update: I’m strongly against cooking it. Best situation is i get another duckling and the neighbors are okay with the noise. Would like some opinions if anyone has any!

Right now it looks like it is between 14-16 days old, i’ll be taking pics when i can

Heres a guilt and stress free idea. Hatch it and donate it to someones hobby farm

Shouldn't be hard to find someone with other ducklings on craigslist this time of year

aaa you’re right, that would be the easiest thing to do! I’ll start asking around if anyone needs a duckling ^^

Can you go back to the farmers market and get more eggs?

I think i could, and i’m sure the age gap won’t bother the ducklings much, but i’m worried about the amount of noise they would make. Do two ducks tend to be louder than chickens?
