3 of my hens have really bad bumble feet. I’ve lost one already. We have been opening the abscess, pulling the corn, cleaning it with epson bath soak, hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment and vet wrap. Two weeks in and it’s still showing up badly on two hens. The other one is not to bad. The floors are a stone dust, but last month it wasn’t draining very well with all the water we had. We have now changed the run and added a cover to keep the floors dry. Any suggestions on antibiotics? I’ve read about Tylan.

Hows the wrapping? If they can pull it off, its not wrapped correctly. Or if they can pull it off easily.

Developing a wrapping technique is incredibly important to insure it doesn’t get re-infected, because if it falls off, you basically just gave it a head-start to get infected again.

I would separate them, not letting them forage for a bit til it heals more.

Pictures? It will help to see how developed it is.

I used tricide-Neo. It seemed to work for me, but i did use a lot of products before, so i don’t really know. Its really pricy, so its up to you if you wanna buy it or not, just something to put out there.
My bumblefoot isn’t gone, but its healing.

Thank you Chicken poppy. Where did you purchase tricide-neo? The vet wrapped is good, it hasn't come off and the coop is dried. The infection seems deeply rooted inside. And every time we cleaned it, we are trying so hard to get all that gunk out so that it doesn't rebuild again. I will try to get photos, I need help with that. They are using their feet and walking fine. The one who has it the worst was limping last week and this week she can walk fine. However that kernel came back and it was grossly large.

Can you get some betadine or chlorhexidine to clean the feet with? Peroxide is actually not a good disinfectant. For an antibiotic, I think I would use Baytril (enrofloxacin), but it's banned for use in poultry, so that's something to consider. I use it, but some people are funny about that.

Baytril:

I would give 0.05 ml to 0.07 ml per pound of bodyweight orally twice a day for 3-5 days.

Yep, Peroxide not only kills bad, but also good healing tissue aswell.

Depending on how deep and bad the infection is, you might need some oral antibiotics. I had one hen with a bad case in March, took her to a vet who cleaned out her food and gave me some oral meds. I soaked, applied triple antibiotic ointment and wrapped daily for 2 weeks, same for the meds-there was an egg withdrawl with it but worth it in the long run

Thank you for the link, I will give that an order. We did betadine last week. But after seeing the abscess back. We’ve been trying everything to disinfect it.

Can you flush it with Epsom salt water using a larger syringe?
