Bumble Foot

A few of my hens have the beginnings of bumble foot. How do I treat it? How long does it take to heal? How do I prevent it?

This one has it the worst.

Take the scab on the bottom of the foot off and squeeze the hard puss out. I just fixed up a foot like this last week.

It is bumble foot and the cure is very simple and straight forward. You could soak it in warm Epson salt water for a while before and or after you get the gunk out.

And then, maybe some triple antibiotic lotion and vetwrap while it heals?

I think I have some small, square Band-Aids. Will they stay on? I have surgical tape, too...
I'm glad I posted. I thought it was just something that got better on it's own.
I have epsom salt, and they have had baths before, so it shouldn't stress them too bad.

How do I keep it from happening again?

It's not really something one can keep from happening. I don't wrap the foot up. I doubt a bandaid would stay on but you could try it.
