Does Bumble foot always present a scab? I have a hen that has what feels like a fatty growth on her toe causing it to twist to the side. There is no sign of a scab or injury to the skin, it is soft and pliable, no redness or discoloring. Trying to decide if I should lance it or not. If it is just a fatty growth I don't want to open for germs to get in. she is a five year old hen that is still laying. thanks

Yes, it’s always a scab. In minor cases caught early on, the scab won't be much larger than a pinhead. As the bumblefoot progresses, the scab will get larger, and the area around the scab will begin to swell up and get puffy and red. You might just have a very tiny scab.

I hope this helps.
