So i recently was looking at my chickens' feet and I noticed that one of them has bumblefoot. In both her feet. My parents and I just tried today to take out the plug and the underlying pus, but my chicken started freaking out, so we got the scab off of one of her feet, and wrapped it, and gave up. I was wondering if there is anyone in the Long Island, NY area that has performed this surgery and would be willing to help us treat her bumblefoot. We would be able to come to you or you to us, any help is appreciated.

Also, if anyone knows a way to treat bumble foot without doing any serious cutting or digging in the foot, that would also be helpful.

It is best to have one person hold, and wrapping the chicken in a towel on her side sitting on your lap or a table is helpful. If you don't go deep enough, you may not get the plug of solid puss out, leaving more infection inside. Not every case of bumblefoot requires surgery. I only perform it if the chicken has a swollen pink foot, or if it is causing a limp. Here is a good link with a video of their surgery (it took 2 tries): http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/07/bumblefoot-causes-treatment-warning.html
