Bumblefoot???? HELP Please

A couple of our chickens have what seems to be Bumblefoot. My wife tried doing the "surgery" herself. Here are a couple pics of what it looks like afterwards. Can someone let me know if their is a less invasive way to fix this? I heard about soaking in some "powder" of some sort.

Surgery looks good,nice and clean. This is probably the best way to treat bumblefoot. Here is a link for more information.
