Hello! I have been treating one of my hens for bumble foot and after changing the bandage today, I noticed a scab. I’m not sure if it looks healthy or not and if i should remove it or leave it? When I removed it the last time, it did bleed quite a bit. Please let me know what you think!

Is she limping? It doesn’t look very bad to me, and is probably healing. I would simply pad the foot or dress it with a 2x2 dressing and vet wrap strips until it heals more. You can apply Betadine or Povidone Iodine mixed with some sugar as a dressing, Prid drawing salve, or Neosporin ointment, and change the dressing daily or e every 2 days if not too soiled. It should heal in time. Padding that foot with a special shoe or foam may help. Make sure the your roosts are not too high, and that they have clean dry bedding. Some roosts may need to be smoothed or sanded to prevent splinters. Here is a short video of applying a bumblefoot dressing:

Just a little update, it came back that time unfortunately but I treated it again in the same way and it has completely healed up!

Well done, bumblefoot can be very stubborn sometimes- usually it’s pretty easy but I’ve had my share of tough cases.

Also, spot on the webbing between her toes; is that just dirt or is it attached? I can’t tell from the pic.

Thank you! There was a little dip where the vet wrap was rubbing and dirt got trapped but that’s all healed up now too 😊

The bumble foot took just over a month to heal. This is what it looked like at the beginning:

I’ve got one I’ve been treating for months now. It’s been driving me crazy lol. Well done committing to a full month of treatment every day, I know exactly how annoying that is.
