Hi, guys! I'm currently a bit worried about my chickens. I'm still in short of money to build their coop since I'm strugglying with my own health.
However, my lavender brahma had bumblefoot... The vet told me to clean the area and apply an ointment which I did for 3 weeks. I'll write here the components:
"Gentamicin (sulfate) 0.5 g
Sulfanilamide 5.0 g
Sulfadiazine 5.0 g
Urea 5.0 g
Vitamin A Palmitate 120,000 IU"
Titânia's foot got pretty soft. I can feel there's a part that's a bit hard but it's mostly soft. The back spot is still there though...
She doesn't perch. She totally refuses! Also, she doesn't jump. This kind of worries me, too. I wonder if she got bumblefoot for spending too much time on the floor. Also, as it's +30 degrees in Brazil now, they frequently prefer the cold floor of the barbecue area than the grassy and sand area!!
My other hen also has bumblefoot and the boys have their feet swollen too. I'm applying the ointment for everyone. Feels like the chickens get more skincare than me...
I can't feel improvement in my other hen's (Sol) bumblefoot though. Sometimes she limps a bit.
The doctor vet said perching would solve bumblefoot issues. She examined Sol and Titânia (the hens). Titânia got a x-ray and the vet said surgery wouldn't be necessary. She didn't do the x-ray for Sol. Well, Sol sleeps on her perche at night but her feet are still hard when I touch it. The dark spot is there too.
Is there anything I could do? Should I go to another vet and ask for surgery? I saw some videos on youtube, there's even a lady who did it without cutting, but I don't know the ingredients of the products that are used for me to search something similar in my country...
