Good morning. I have a Rhode Island Red named Rooster. Being relatively new to chickens, I thought the bumps on his foot were tumors and only after researching did I find it’s actually something I can treat. Needless to say, he’s got it bad - 3 of them on one foot. I soaked his feet in epsom salt and removed the scab and kernel on the first one between his toes. There was also lots of stringy stuff so I removed what I could, rinsed with betadine, packed with neosporin, sprayed with blukote and wrapped. After a few days, I cleaned/neosporin/blukote/wrap again and also worked on the 2nd and 3rd scab. Was able to pull out lots of string stuff on second scab and it appears to be healing ok. 3rd scab is the biggest and directly on bottom of his foot. It started bleeding as I was trying to get the black scab off and he was getting impatient by that point (as was my husband). Looked like stringy stuff again. So i followed same treatment - cleaned/neosporin/blukote/wrap. After unsuccessfully getting this, researched more and purchased black drawing salve and slathered it on all his sores, wrapped and reapplied several times during last week, hoping to draw infection up and make it easier to address the big scab. Today, I worked on the big scab and got most of it off. But as I use the tweezers to try and pic at the yellow, he starts pulling his leg away and it has also started bleeding again. So I took pic and neosporin/salve/wrapped for now. I’m attaching pics of what the big sore looks like and also a pic of the first sore I worked on (between toes) - still after 2 weeks a big bump but not black? Is it yellow infection or lighter scab formed? I dressed it same as the first - did not dig into it. I would appreciate advice on what I’m seeing and whether I still need to dig at this or do I clean/neosporin/salve/wrap until it heals?
