Well, I gather from my search that my pullet has Bumblefoot. I was wondering if anyone had used the Duramycin from Tractor Supply and what was the result? Should I use it or forget it? I have called all around and no vet will sell me any antibiotics unless they see the bird and my husband would be a little upset at the bill you'd get for just walking in the door. I figured I'd have to do surgery but wanted some antibiotics first. I won't be able to tackle the surgery until tomorrow. I'm a college student and have two big tests tomorrow and so little time to prepare. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tweeza

If it works, what amount should I give and how often?

Duramycin won't help a staph infection. I no longer give any antibiotics for bumblefoot. You'd need lincomycin or cephalexin if you decide to give them, though. You can get these things at First State Vet Supply (Dr. Peter Brown's company) His site, FeatherFanciers.com has good information on treating bumblefoot, but you have to join to see the forum.

I'm not sure if the same rule applies to chickens, but I know keeping rats on a wire floor is almost a bumblefoot guarantee. If she's on wire taking her off would probably help a great deal and also prevent it in the future.
