One of my ducks has started limping. She is still able to walk to her food and water without too many issues. She tries to keep up with the flock as well. She doesn't seem to be in too much pain but I don't know if a duck can even show pain. I decided to take a look at her foot and found that the right side is very swollen. I checked for something stuck in the foot (maybe a splinter) but didn't find one. Could this be bumblefoot? If so would it need surgery or could i just dap on some tea tree oil everyday and wrap it up. I couldn't find any black scabs but there is a very small brown spot in the center of the swollen area. Please tell my what you think it could be and what to do about it as soon as possible. I can take more pictures if needed.
Thank You,
HomesteadDucks

My duck had the exact same thing once. It resolved itself on its own. My best guess would be to poke it with a sterilized needle and see what comes out. If pus, then its an infection. In my case, it was just blood and it got better on its own.

Thank You Amiga,
If my duck does indeed have an infection, this will come in handy. Though if my duck doesn't have an infection, I wouldn't want to treat it for one. Are there other methods to test for an infection? Should I wait to see if it gets worse or goes away?

@HomesteadDucks
  for ducks, poking is not as helpful as it may sound at first - the pus is usually quite chunky.

Before you use a needle, please please read this - it has worked for a growing number of ducks.

Really? Sorry for the misinformation. That's what someone told me to do

Each of us offers the best we know - I hope I did not sound disrespectful of you. We learn as we go. Certainly something needs to be done.

Oh no, I wasn't offended at all! I'm grateful you corrected me, I would hate to tell someone to do something that could hurt their animal further. :)

I don't know how chicken's feet are - maybe the pus is runnier - but for ducks, I have read that it's more like chunks. Ick. And since they are in the mud so much, opening the feet at all, seems to me, increases risk of infection.

At the same time, there may be times surgery is needed. But then I would want a vet if possible.

Thank you all for the responses. I'll hold off from doing anything and give it a little more time to see if it gets better or worse.
