Yesterday I went and picked up some half grown chickens from someone I had hatched them for earlier this spring. The plan was that I hatched, he raised, I got hens, he kept the roos. No problem. Until I picked them up. They are small for 9-12 weeks (2 batches) and most don't want to move a whole bunch. Today, I was moving them out into a crate for them to be able to get some sunshine and fresh air and noticed some limping. When I picked the chick up I noticed her feet looked like this.... Am I correct to assume that I'm looking at bumblefoot?? I soaked her feet in cool water for a bit and she seemed to be walking better, but I know that won't cure it if that's it. I'm afraid most of the chicks I looked at had something like this to varying degrees. None seem to be this bad though....

I'm not opposed to doing the 'surgery' but these are all pretty small holes. What else can I do to help? I haven't integrated them into my flock yet because they are way smaller than I thought they should be, but now I'm even afraid to put them in.
Help!! :)
Thanks!
Holly

Thanks! I will try that if I can find it. I'm assuming I could get it at most places that sell fish?

The other thing that I've noticed is that they smell. REALLY Badly. In fact, I bathed them all when they came home and had to change clothes because they smelled so bad. Today, if I walk back past where they are within about 20 feet you can smell them.....outside...... I'm not sure if that's part of the problem with their feet or not.....

Yikes. That is not normal. They must have been kept in pretty bad conditions to be suffering from such bad foot sores. Were they kept on wire?

Honestly I have no idea. I should have gone to pick them up there instead of meeting halfway in between, but because I did I have no idea what their living conditions are like. As mud caked as they were, it must be pretty bad.
