I have noticed all my chickens have the black scab on one or both of their feet. They have sand in one part of their run with an attached run that is now dirt because they tore all the grass up...shocker haha. I keep the sand sifted and clean as much as possible. The dirt part doesnt ever get muddy unless it rains extremely hard and that is only around the perimteter. Inside our coop I have always used the pine flake shavings from tractor supply on the floor and in the nesting boxes. Under their roosts i have poop boards that I clean every morning.
I am wondering if when they jump down from their roosts in the coop onto the pine shavings can they be causing small scratches to their feet and then this is turning into bumble foot? What do others keep on the coop floor? I keep everything else as clean as possible and don't understand why they all have it.
