HI, I have had some recent experience with bumble foot, so here is what I know: it proved very successful.
1. Find a friend you can help. (morally and physically)
2. Catch the bird and calm it down.
3. Flip it over, and cover it (including head) with a towel, leave the foot exposed.
4. Pick the scab.
5. Make two quick cuts like a X to widen the hole.
6. Use clean tweesers to pick out the kernel.
7. Apply non medicated neosporine to the wound.
8. Wrap it in vet tape.
Some Important Points
- Never use any pain medication, this is lethal to birds
- Neosporine is ok if it is not medicated
- Have everything set up before
Hello, I believe my chickens have bumble foot. To be honest I have no clue how long they have had it. I just happen to catch it today and saw this thing on one of her feet. I believe almost my whole flock has them. I think they are getting them cause the roost bars are really high and I've been trying to get a ladder made, but I am not handy at all. I've been reading the posts, but do I have to cut them out or has anyone tried antibiotic essential oil mix. I'm not the type to sit there and dig it out, I can watch someone do it, but me actually doing it is another story. Is there anything I can do or do I just need to call a vet. Thanks so much!!
