Hi! Just signed up! Found the little template of questions to help newbies like me to introduce ourselves and thought it was a good way to start off, so here goes:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
New as of last November. I bought a home on acreage that came with a chicken coop, a duck pond, Muscovies, and a mixed flock of laying chickens. Didn't even know how many there would be.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Nine hens, and four Roosters! My favorite hen turned out to be a rooster. Way too many roosters! I kept them around over the winter for their body heat, but now that it is warming up, I need to do something with them. Can't decide which one to keep, and which ones to get rid of.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Not sure. Hoping the Forum can help me with that. My guess is a couple of Wyandots, a couple of Barred Rocks, some easter-eggers, and some mystery chickens. One of the roosters looks like a Lavender orpington, and one of them, Buttercup, whom I thought was a hen at first, looks like a Buff Orpington. The other two may be Easter Eggers? What would Easter Egger roosters look like?

I also have four Muscovies. I think there were 8 when I first moved in, but the previous owner let them free range, and over a few days, I ended up with only four!! I started locking them up in the coop at night, and no more losses since. Only thing, I'm left with three drakes and only one hen - Sigh!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The cool, fresh, wonderful, different colored eggs of course! Plus the connection to nature, watching the chickens interact and fight, and seeing the duck enjoying the pond again now that the spring thaw has started.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Tropical Fish keeping, reading, foraging.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Couple of Fish tanks, a couple of cats, recently adopted a dog.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
Kept coming across BYC Google hits so looked like an active and helpful community.
