:( I really wanted one of these beauties, and I only purchased 1. and I'm pretty sure it is a rooster. Speckles (how original, eh? LOL) is 6 weeks old.

I am so heartbroken :( I was really hoping for that sweet hen to love. I will say though, out of all the chicks I've EVER owned, this one is by far the sweetest. That is why it threw me off as a roo! It just started developing a comb and wattles like this last week. I hope it keeps this temperment, because if it does, I'll still keep it. But, man, I was hoping for the sweet hen that I thought it was :(

Your luck sounds like mine - I bought two because I think they are so doggone pretty! Well, looks like I got one of each :

Eh, a good chook is a good chook, a nice natured male is just as good as a nice natured female I reckon, you can get yourself a speckled sussex hen and breed more of the same. :)

Best wishes.

well, I've never kept a rooster, besides a silkie rooster, and I've only heard mostly horror stories about roosters... so I'm a bit skeptical. but, I will give it a try!

I am going to have to rehome a few roosters it looks like!

I have a Rooster, he is actually pretty sweet. He takes great care of his hens, and scares the dogs lol. He still will eat out of hands and let us love on him for a few minutes, that is until one of the hens runs off, then he is back on duty!

Hmmm. ok! so that makes me hopeful!

I wonder if I should get 2 more chicks now, or wait until next year. Hmmmm..... either way, it will be more integration. bah.
