Bummed. I"m pretty sure my Speckled Sussex is roo

I've raised 2 batches of chicks this spring already. I don't know if I wanna do it again. sigh.......... maybe I'll wait. oh IDK. hard decision to make.

Hmmm. ok! so that makes me hopeful!

I wonder if I should get 2 more chicks now, or wait until next year. Hmmmm..... either way, it will be more integration. bah.

Harder doing integration when you keep your animals separate. It's much easier when you introduce them as babies with a hen, if you practice an integrated flock without any segregation as a rule. I don't know what your setup is but maybe getting fertile eggs and adding them to clutches your hens are brooding might work?

the only hens I have that go broody, are my silkies, which are in the other coop. nobody else goes broody. :( it is ok. I am going to search for some speckled sussexs 6-11 weeks old.

I ended up keeping "him" and the comb hasn't changed at ALL since then. Speckles is now 17 weeks! I do believe it is a female. :) so tiny, and everything about it is female!

400
you just gave me some hope for my 5 1/2 week old!

Specks is turning out nicely too! She is a tiny little thing, much smaller than all the other chickens her age!

I'd keep it, you just never know. chickens don't read the books ya know :)
