Bummed...in PA

An irksome portion of the initial conversation went something like this: Really? A 6 year old take care of them? C'mon". That got under my skin big time! So I'm thinking they have no soft spot for the fact it's my son asking not just me and my wife.

Check your paperwork and see. If they aren't interested in your situation then they aren't interested in the neighbors! Worst case senario , what could happen with a small coop ( for starters) and 3 little chicks on an acre of land? Are you kidding me! What could they do ? Is it worth the drive out to your property?
Build your coop and screw the neighbor. Ridiculous!!! A whole acre or more between houses....
People have ducks on a plot 25x100 and nobody says anything.
An acre of land and complaining, they should feel like a jerk!

I too say go for it! Apparently the county is not interested in having much of a say.

Go ahead and look through your other papers of course. If you don't see a clear exclusion get that boy his birds!

Always read every line of every document you sign.

Heck I am on 1/4 acre and have 31 birds, 3 dogs, and 3 cats. On top of that I am in the middle(yes middle!) Of town.

Yup I am within the law but may be pushing it a bit.

Miss May says she cannot believe anyone could ever be against chickens.

I'm not so sure even if the insurance paperwork said no livestock (chickens) that it would matter much. It just comes down to someone complaining. Where I'm at, you have to have an acre, I'm on 3/4. I've had police in my back yard area (wooded and some nefarious happenings go on) and county workers checking the flood plain and I've actually gotten compliments from both saying they love the flower gardens, veggie gardens and the chickens. Insurance says no....but assessors have been out to assess the house twice for refinancing - saw the coop with chickens- and said nothing. We had to replace the driveway and install steps to an elevated shed....but nothing about removing my girls! There is a definite no no for DE in general about no "swine". The next neighborhood over has a house that faces a major road and they have a large pink pig in the back!!! I think it was probably a mini pot belly...but it's not so mini. So...if you can somehow handle this PIA neighbor....go for the chickens!

Since it's been some time since I initially posted this, might as well shoot an update out for you all! The idea of getting chicken did not die, nor our want to have them as a family. My son got involved with Cub Scouts, thus I did too, so it took over more time, energy and money. But we're back on the chicken train!

I poured over ever sheet of paperwork I could find on our house. We had a version of the Title Insurance, which mentioned NOTHING about no poultry or fences. I've had two other neighbors come and ask me if we're still getting them, being in full support of the idea. One even said, "Just do it! Put the coop over towards my property line more if you want! I don'r care." So, we are! I just found a feed store not too far away that sells chicks and am now planning out the coop (bad timing with it being winter).

Thanks again for the support! I'll start a new thread once we get the lil girls.

1. You own your home...and the land it sits on...and pay real estate taxes...correct?
2. You are NOT part of a HOA...correct?
3. Your local zoning board are fine with chickens...as per your post ..."I checked with the township and we're fine to have them, zoning is A OK. The coop just has to be a certain set-back from the property lines."
4. Go get your chickens. Follow the rules of zoning on placement of coop.
5. Go tell your neighbor to go pound sand.
