I have seen in a few different sources that bunnies should not be given green beans or cauliflower but I can't find any reasoning why.

Anyknow know?

Well, don't tell the wild buns that always eat the green bean plants!

I don't know about green beans, I do feed some of mine fresh stuff, but I don't think I have ever fed beans or cauliflower. If Cauliflower is like Brocoli, maybe its gas producing? Mine like Broccoli when it has gone to flower!

Yep, pretty much anything known to cause gas can be troublesome for a rabbit's digestive system.

I feed broccolli all the time and they love it. I have given cauliflower in the past as well with no issues.

gas producing makes sense

The reason that rabbit owners are advised not to feed broccoli, cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables to rabbits is because they contain an enzyme that inhibits the absorption of iodine. If you feed enough broccoli to a rabbit, you can cause it to develop a goiter (enlarged thyroid gland) which is often a symptom of iodine deficiency.

My rabbits love green beans from my garden.... i dont give them alot though...

Thanks Bunnylady, I didn't know that. I do give mine broccoli on occasion, mostly the stems, but they prefer it once it's flowered. I will definately keep in in check though:)
