A while ago, my husband and I and our two rabbits went in for a (free) screening to see if they would be suitable as therapy animals. It went very, very well...but then we found out it would cost us 250 to 400 dollars to register us and the rabbits. I totally understand that you are paying for liability coverage and courses to help you react well in different situations...but we didn't know it would be that much money and just can't afford it to be able to do volunteer work. I found a nation wide rabbit-specific group called 'Bunnies in Baskets". They have excellent liability insurance (up to a million dollars in damage), and still give courses. That would only cost us about 20 to 40 dollars to get all of us registered. Thing is, I just haven't heard much about them, and am a bit nervous. Has anyone here used Bunnies in Baskets for therapy animal registration? Did you like it? Did it offer enough support to get you started? Are there any other groups you would suggest that wouldn't be as pricey as the big names (ie. Delta Society), and our locally available group? Any other input? Thanks!
