UPDATE: Momma bunny had her babies just afew minutes ago. 1 quick 'whinny' and there was a whole bundle of em under her! She's laid on her side and started panting pretty hard again so i dont know if there's more to come or not. I'm going to leave her be for a while and will get pictures after a couple days, don't wanna disturb her too much. I just brought her a bundle of strawabout 30mins ago, lol.

I got a doe rabbit today, no idea what breed but she also came with her 'boyfriend'. She was already pregnant and i noticed a fair amount of fur in the box when i got them home. I checked her out and noticed her "girl parts" were very loose looking and wrinkly. I just got the boy moved into a seperate cage(had to put one together) but when i came in to get him he was on top of her. Should I be worried? It's been YEARS since i've had a pregnant rabbit and i have a Terrible memory! I also put the nest box in but it's BIG...

Is she going to go into labor soon?
how old do the kits have to be before I can remove the box?

I just want them & her to have enough room.

Also, no idea of the age or breed, but the Buck is obviously mature(big testes) and he's only about 7lbs, the doe also.
Doe is Jet Black
Buck is Broken Black.

any ideas?

Do you know whether these two are related? Black or broken black, weight about 7 lbs, sounds like they are most likely a mix.

When you said that there was a fair amount of fur in the box, did it look like she had been pulling fur, or might it have come from the buck riding her?

Most of my does only pull fur within a couple of days of kindling. Some wait until after they have kindled, you kind of need a little history with that particular doe to know what fur pulling means with her. Fur pulling can also signal the end of a false pregnancy, or even a doe that is is "in the mood" to breed!

A young buck will ride anything that he can catch, so his behavior doesn't necessarily mean anything. On the other hand, it might. Rabbits don't do what most people recognise as a heat cycle, but they do experience hormonal fluctuations. A doe gets one of the highest peaks she will ever have, right after kindling. The buck will be able to detect her rising hormone level, so his increased interest may indicate that she is getting close.

Okay, well she was a little irritated that i took her friend away last ngiht...she thumpped and scratched the cage all night long. She's in a better mood this morning and just this afternoon started building her nest.... i failed to notice this morning that she had already moved ALL of the shavings from the cage into the nest box, lol. I've checked on her a few times and she's started pulling fur and packing it to her box with the alfalfa stems.

Im excited, I just hope she's a good momma.

Yeah, VERY short notice! i'm a little annoyed that someone would bring a doe that close to birth to the auction. just very lucky that she didn't abort, especially with that buck in ther with her!

just glad shes here in a warm cage with her new babies. she's been good so far, just resting.

i got a quick count and i think there is 4 broken blacks & 2 blacks

Wow..8 for the price of two!!!!

It was a bit irresponsible of the previous owner. But also lucky you bought them and have done the right thing. Hope all goes well for the new little ones.
