Some of my girls are starting to lay eggs! Yay! The first ones have been quite small and I am not sure what to do with them exactly and I have noticed that they are burying the eggs in the nest. I have to dig around a bit to find them. Is that normal? For some reason I thought they would just lay them on top. Also the ones laying are all using the same nest and ignoring the other one. Is that going to be a problem?

Congrats on your new eggs! it's eggciting. I usually cook the first smaller ones and feed them to my dogs. as far as buring their eggs it's natural, when they start to brood they will do that too so they are practicing. I have to go on an egg hunt daily since I use deep litter. And my girls will use the same box and the only time it will be a problem is if you decide to let one sit and all the others want to keep laying in her nest.

Thanks!

This morning we found a full size egg. So exciting! I've never owned animals that give things back to us, just ones that cost us money. lol I cant wait until we get some chickens.
