I have some friends with chickens that are very busy, and I help them take care of their chickens when they can't. Well, I came over to feed said chickens, and noticed a rooster had a bad facial injury. Less so on one side than the other. He looks like he was burned, but was it just fighting? They have 8 roosters, and are trying to re-home 4. They have 14 hens, and all of the chickens are free range. I am trying to get pictures, and will have some quickly. I am catching him to get a better look. I need help figure out what happened and what to do next. Thank you in advance!

On a chicken's face, dried up blood often looks black. A warm wet cloth would reveal what the case is, plus clean him up. ;)

It does appear to be a fight, and he has a large gash. He has Neosporin on it, and is separated from the others.
