We killed and processed our rooster last weekend because he was just too hard on the hens. When we opened the chest cavity and took out the organs it seemed to me that there was a lot of fat around the intestines. His liver and other organs looked very healthy. He had some fat deposits on his legs and along the breast meat but not that much. Most of the fat was kind of free floating around the intestines.

Is this normal or am I spoiling my chickens too much?

We since cooked and ate him. He was very tasty.

How did his liver look? Generally, if you are over feeding fat the liver will be yellowish instead of a rich, dark burgundy color.

The liver looked great. It was a nice dark red without any spots or variation in color. I guess then that they're fine. Thanks for your response.
