Hello!
I am brand new to chickens. Got my first four girls a month ago. Currently planning and making the coop. I have a buff Orpington, a Barred Rock, a Sapphire Gem, and a Black Sexlink.

So far I am just having fun experiencing chicken mom life. I got the chickens to see if I would want a few more if we ever decide to homestead on more land.

Sounds like you're starting out with some great breeds! Although my Buff Orp is past her most productive days, my Sapphire Gem continues to present me with large, lovely eggs several times a week.

Just a warning: I started out with four hens, convinced that was all I would ever want or need. That was many, many chickens ago -- along with ducks and a couple of geese. Some folks, me included, find poultry irresistible once we get started.
