Buttercup is going broody. I have hatched eggs in the incubator before but have never had one of my ducks do it naturally. I think she is all business too. She has 8 or 9 eggs and she is on them most of the time. When I go out to feed them and give them fresh water, she comes running with her bill open... kinda hunched down - like get out of my way - I only have so much time to be off of that nest - so I am first to eat and drink... and you better not mess with my eggs while I am up and about. I haven't bothered her eggs... so don't know what she would do... What I don't know (is a lot ) but... do they quit laying when they go broody??? Are the other ducks okay in the pen until right before they hatch? They don't seem to be bothering her. I thought I would take the drake out right before they are do to hatch. She is a runner and I thought they weren't very good at going broody, so she may not make it all the way... but I imagine some do... or there wouldn't be many runners. : ) Any knowledge anyone could share would be appreciated.
