In my experience the tails have little to nothing to do with it. I have ahd both roo chicks and pullets with the tails in various positions up or down.

...so if the comb starts to redden at 5 weeks, I might have a problem...eh? Is there any chance Mediterranean birds can have combs redden young as pullets? I don't want to have one lonely Buttercup...
