Just a little update on the chicks I hatched in my homemade incubator. They are eating and drinking well and having a great time in their brooder! Here's a short video I took of them in the brooder:

If you put a square plastic bottle full of water (I use those aloe drinks from the store because the chicks can't roll the bottle around) or a clean red brick on the floor it will absorb the heat from the lamp and ensure that your brooder temp stays more stable throughout the day. It also helps avoid suffocation by piling if you have a lot of chicks and your temps drop for any reason.

Thanks for the suggestion I think I'll go with the water bottle
