I want to get a few button quail and have heard that you have to keep them in the house or a garage, etc. because they have to be qept warm. I live in the south and it stays really warm in the summers but winters can be cold. I really don't want to keep them inside so what do you button quail experts have to say? Can they be kept outside?

There was a post about this a few weeks ago on here. Several people from the north said they can be outside in an enclosed cage or aviary as long as they have good food and access to shelter boxes if they want it -- I guess it's not the cold that is a problem, but drafts, so if you can seal the drafts out it should be OK.

Especially in Alabama -- when you do get a little cold, most years it's gone quickly -- I know this past winter was an exception.

They are from tropical areas of China. Of course none of them in the states have been wild in China for many , many years but they are built for 40 degrees - 90 degrees. With care they can be kept lower and higher temps but not as comfortably or easily.
