My first set of Button Quail are coming up on a week old tomorrow. I can see that most of their wings have already developed and a few are trying pretty hard to fly.
I've kept lovebirds and cockatiels for some time now and I'm familiar with clipping their wings. I'm wondering if the procedure is the same for Buttons. I cut the first 5-6 flight feathers to the length of the row of feathers above them. This keeps my birds from flying but allows them to "float" to the ground if they ever fall.
Will that work for Buttons?
Do they need to be clipped more than that?
thanx.

So long as you're careful, you can clip them whenever you feel like it. The only thing is that you'll need to keep up with it until they're fully mature, because their flight feathers will grow in very efficiently.
