Hi everyone! I would like to ask if anyone knows the right ratio male-females οf button quails.
Also what I must feed them?
Thanks!

Buttons do NOT do well in big groups. Once a pair has bonded, they will seriously injure any other buttons. 1 male per 1 female is the norm. I do have a trio 2 females and one Male and it works. I also have 1 male and 1 Male, that works too. Feed a game bird no less that 20% protein, I feed mine 24%

2 many chickens, in your trio does your male breed with both females? Or is one more of a loner? I have 6 chicks (yet to be sexed) and am deciding which to keep and which to re-home. Hopefully as they mature natural groups or pairs will form 🤞

I generally recommend keeping them in pairs for best results, because they mate for life and form very strong bonds to one mate. There are people who keep them in trios or larger groups, but there is more risk of someone getting attacked.

I do keep a trio and a group of four (one male, two females and one male, three females), but these aren't breeding groups. They are siblings who love each other and get very upset when they're not together.

Thank you all for your answers. I will buy a pair for start therefore.
What I wanted to ask is if they want to hatch their eggs or if they are very difficult as the coturnixs.

I think broodiness is a little more common in king quails, but still not super common. I've had many broody king quails, some of who were raised by their own parents. My advice: don't give up. I hear about too many people giving up on the idea that their quail could go broody, so they collect the eggs before they get a chance to sit on them, or they kick them off when they are broody because they don't think they'll incubate them well... Sometimes you just need to give them a chance.

I agree with everyone. Pairs are 100% the best thing for breeding and also @Quailobsessed is right with quails more likely going broody if parent raised. They are soooooo cute when they hatch out chicks. I live in Aus and it will be spring soon so I’m hoping for my Kings to hatch out some! Also if/when you get some, send pics! 😊
