I have 2 button quails that are growing out of the brooder quick. I have seen people keep them in glass tanks as well as guinea pig cages. I am not sure what I should do. Are there any that I should not do, any that are perfect? Should I build a coop? I thought about building a chicken tractor for the spring/summer just for the day time. If i where do do a tank I would most likely do a 30 gallon. If anyone has any advice or anything that they use it would be greatly appreciated :D

I would think that you would want some sort of thing that's like a 'run' for chickens, but with doors on the sides and top for cleaning and bird access. I've never owned quail, however.

I would do something love to do something like that. The winters where I am are very cold and I only ended up with 2 quail. I would be worried about coyotes, foxes, raccoons getting to them. They are so small.

I’d go for anything with a front opening, they’re way less scared than if you reach in from the top. I have one of my pairs in a large vivarium (works out about 42 gallons) with netting over the top and I really like it. They’re easy to see, you can put your hand in the front doors to offer worms, and they can’t fling sand and bedding everywhere!

Agree with @Quailobsessed and also since you said predators and weather might be a problem you might decide something that prevents those problems. Like inside or outside with height and protection from the weather. It’s your decision for your quails. Also would you mind posting a pic? They sound adorable! (As all quails are).

Here they are, they are getting older and a jumping around :wee

I use a long, transparent storage box made of polypropylene (PP on the bottom), which is food-safe. I'm thinking of giving them more space with another one by linking them with a couple of doors and a straight connector, like Omlet's. Thinking of replacing the bubble insulation at the top with soft, thick foam that will fit perfectly into the hard lid and protect their heads.

I keep some of mine in a tank, with 6 in one it needs cleaning out twice a week. U MUST make sure the lid is soft mesh so its ventilated and they won't bonk their heads. With 2 Buttons u can probably get away with a clean out once a week. But the tank is definately more attractive than a cage. Make sure there is plenty of interest for them and that u cover a lot of the glass xx
